A Discussion On Video Gaming Addictions
An addictive personality disorder may be the main reason for addiction to games. Some people have different views on video gaming addictions, but the important thing to realize is that it can be damaging to one’s life. One factor that contributes to the addiction may be the promise of a reward at the end of each game or level.
If there is another type of addiction that is similar to this, it would be gambling addiction. Gambling addicts don’t stop until they get a win, like a gamer doesn’t stop until he reaches a level or kills the enemy. The need to achieve something is similar in both gambling and gaming addicts. Once a person gets a taste of a reward he wants, he will keep wanting to get that reward no matter what he has to sacrifice.
What are signs of addiction? If a person cannot stay away from a game, he is considered an addict. If the person cannot talk about anything else other than his game. It’s true that some gamers can go for days without going out to play a game. A lot of games addicts also suffer from health problems due to lack of sleep. Time can really fly by as the gamer is concentrating on finishing his games one by one. More often than not, the games take precedence over family or friendships. A gamer would often forget what time it is, or what he needs to do that day.
Unlike drug addiction, there is no rehabilitation center for video game addicts. The most that a concerned parent or friend can do is to offer the gamer incentive to stay away from his game long enough for him to change his perspective. What is needed is a change of perspective and lifestyle. A gaming addict may have become a burden to some people without realizing it, so he has to snap out of it fast.
Remember, video gaming addictions can happen to any gamers so you have to be aware of the dangers the addictions brings.
