Rock Band Might Just Teach Real Drum Skills

Video gaming systems have really improved since we first played Pong, PacMan and all of the other classics. Who could have envisioned decades ago that computer gaming could be used to learn new skills?

Guitar Hero is one video game that is awesome to do, but they also say at Harmonix Music that if you can play the Rock Band drum set on the ‘hard’ setting, you should be able to play the drums for real! Question is though are you really drumming, or just copying the pattern you see on the screen? If you are able to play along with the video game, that does not translate into the real world and does not mean you will be able to play a real drum kit. The real world of drumming requires the ability to read music, which is not taught in the game; fantastic coordination and rhythm. People that aren’t able to read music you will probably not be able to be in a band unless you are musically talented and able to hear what to play. Bands today don’t use electronic drums like were so common in the 1980′s . Real music give the musician creativity over the volume, pitch and duration of the drum note and cymbals.

At least your real drum kit will never need is Guitar Hero World Tour cymbal cable, because there are no cables that are so badly made that they always break.

Even a small drum kit is far more advanced than the Guitar Hero or Rock Band drum set. For those wanting to make the switch, I’m sure the thought of a real drum kit is a little scary! Just think about sitting on stage with your drums, knowing that you are responsible for setting the rhythm for your band and they all rely on you. If you’re able to do that you might be a awesome drummer, but for a new musician even the Guitar Hero or Rock Band drum set can be too much.

The basics of playing the drums is as simple as keeping the beat. So being able to tap your feet means you’re a drummer? Not necessarily. A quality drummer adds their creativity to the music and enhances it as well as providing a base rhythm for the rest of the band to follow. You don’t always think about the drums, but if you were to take them out of the song you definitely would notice for sure!

So, will a video game teach you to play the drums? Most likely not, but you can sure start learning the basics. Get comfortable with the drums through the Xbox game, practice counting the beat, and you are on your way to number one! Make sure you pick up a new Guitar Hero World Tour cable before it breaks!
