How I Have Grown Up With Video Game Technology
Ever since I was a preteen I have been playing video games in my own home. That was nearly forty years ago. It is amazing how much some things have changed. But there are ways that the games of the past are still similar to the games of today. When looking back on my years o playing it is fun to look at what has been, what is right now and what will come in the future and with the recent xbox 360 kinect release date and my rush to the store to get one for Christmas, it is a good time to write down my experiences as a gamer.
The first game I got was called Pong. It did not involve anything that was too difficult. The simple nature did not stop me from playing it. I would play my brother for hours on end. It was something I had to do. I wanted to be the champion. As I think back on that game, I remember when my parents first. The game was not cheap. I remember them spending well over a hundred dollars. When adjusting for inflation that is similar to the consoles that are available now. And the games back then were very limited. You had a choice of one or two players. That was the extent of the game.
After a few years I turned to the Atari system. You could buy separate titles that could be played on one system. Variety was much better than playing Pong. Now I could fly a plane or blow up an alien. I embraced the fun that these consoles were giving me. I still went to the arcade for really good games. However, when I couldn’t get to the mall, I had a substitute. I had to find ways to earn cash to purchase the games that my friends had. Just like the baseball cards that I got rid of when I was young, if I had hung onto these systems I would be able to buy a lot of different things by selling them.
Through my college years and as a young adult, I still played video games.|I grew older and more independent, but I still liked gaming.|The idea o being a gamer was still a part of me even as I became a part of the adult world.} I did have other interests that limited the amount I played. There was always some way to play a game in my home. When they came up with home computers, that became a part of my life. The internet opened up a lot of options too. Starting a family altered my priorities away from video games. As my kids grew, video games reappeared in my home. They were better than ever.
We bought a Microsoft Xbox. Games were very realistic. We found appropriate games for all of our children. We bought games that kept our children entertained. And I also picked out some that I would enjoy. After the kids went to bed, I would start playing the games. There were times that I would lose track of the time. Just like when I first played Pong, I was enjoying the games a lot. It was a lot of fun to escape into these other worlds and I loved playing them. We had a fairly full schedule and there was not a lot of time available for gaming. When my schedule got to hectic, the games sat idle. But every time my schedule permitted I would still enjoy playing. It does not seem to diminish much as the years roll by.
This Christmas bought the xbox 360 kinect and with it came a whole new world of video gaming that has my family and myself moving around and using the video gaming system as our own personal gym while my kids practice their football and baseball techniques. I do not think I will ever get too old for video games.
