More and more people are playing video games nowadays and whilst I think that part of this is thanks to the recession and people getting more money out of a game than they do on a thing like a night out I will say that a lot of it is to do with the games having a much higher budget as well as being marketed very well indeed. They are also starting to appeal to more than one audience with things such as model kits even coming with some of the most important games.
As just an example I will be looking into Halo Reach because it is upcoming and huge. The game itself is not out until September (the Beta is running this month) and already you can pre-order three separate editions of the game itself which is pretty crazy but it works in the same way that Halo 3 did. The very first is actually just the game. The next edition is once again just like Halo 3 as it is going to be called limited edition and it comes with in game elite armour, an artefact bag, Spartan II patch and Dr Halsey's security badge. The very final edition of the game will consist of all of the above as well as a massive Noble team statue and an exclusive in-game Spartan armour effect.
It is this model that reaches out to the people that collect these kinds of things. I have seen many Mega Blok Halo figures out there that can be built too and I will admit to owning one of them. I have also seen a remote control Warthog (from the halo franchise) so there are already things like RC cars starting to appear on the market.
So the next thing has surely got to be remote control helicopter based on things like pelicans from the Halo universe so look out for all kinds of models being released around video games.
