The Best Draft Choices By The Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins entered the National Football League in 1970, having been part of the American Soccer League before that. The organization made it to its first Super Bowl after the 1971 year, Super Bowl VI, but lost to the Dallas Cowboys. The Miami Dolphins achieved the 1st perfect season the next year, in 1972, which resulted in a Super Bowl VII victory. The organization was first to make it to 3 successive Super Bowls and the 2nd organization to win back-to-back Championships. Check out our NFL mock draft to see who we think that they might take this year.

No. 3: Zach Thomas, LB, (1996 - 2007)

Zach Thomas was selected in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Who is Zach Thomas, you might ask? Zach Thomas is one of only three guys to record 100-plus tackles in each of his first 10 seasons. The LB was an animal on the field and single-handedly ruled the opposition on a regular basis, racking up 1,041 tackles and 598 assists. The 7-time Pro Bowler also had 19.5 sacks with 17 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, 7 fumbles recovered and four TDs. The greatness of the player is summed up by illuminating that he made more tackles than any linebacker selected into the Hall of Fame, and is ranked fourth best in NFL history.

No. 2: Jason Taylor, DL, (1997 - 2007, 2009 & 2011)

Jason Taylor was considered small for playing on the defensive line, but he was however taken by Miami in the third round of the 1997 NFL draft, going 73rd overall. The rest is history as he notched up more than 120 sacks with the Dolphins in 188 contests. His career numbers are astounding as he assembled 45 fumbles forced, 27 fumbles recovered and 8 picks with three touchdowns. He has made 471 tackles, becoming one of the top defensive ends in the league. With a grand total of 132.5 sacks as of 2010, he was the active NFL sack leader and had made it to the Pro Bowl for 6 appearances. He announced his retirement after the 2011 season. It's just a matter of time before the Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 is elected into the NFL Hall-Of-Fame.

No. 1: Dan Marino, QB, (1983 - 1999)

Dan Marino has played the most games for the Miami Dolphins team, beginning 240 of them. When he retired, his numbers stood at only under 5,000 passes, 61,361 yards and 420 touchdowns. In 1984 Marino was named the NFL MVP after throwing for a record-setting 5,084 passing yards and 48 touchdowns. The player, who was named to the Hall of Fame in 2005, played for the AFC in the Pro Bowl on nine occasions, 1983 - 1987, 1991 - 1992 and 1994 - 1995. Marino is among the most prolific passers ever to take the field, having held almost all the passing records you can think of in the NFL. He led the team to the postseason in 10 seasons, earning 5 divisional titles, but never captured the Super Bowl, coming close in Super Bowl XIX.

Although Marino could be one of the greatest players who never won a Super Bowl, there isn't any second-guessing that Dan Marino deserves to be called the greatest player ever drafted by the Miami Dolphins.
